Since 1974, when Ladakh first became accessible to foreign visitors, this high and arid region has captured the imagination of adventure travelers. Geographically Ladakh is a western extension of the Tibetan Plateau, till the beginning of the nineteenth century this mountainous country was a part of Tibet. This rugged Trans Himalayan region is wedged between the Himalaya Range and high windswept Tibetan Plateau. A land where Buddhism is still practiced throughout consists of chortens and spectacular monasteries and prayer flag’ fluttering on the high passes. The Muslim religion is also important in Ladakh, due to the influence of Kashmir in the west. Ladakh also often called “Little Tibet gives you a blend of mixed cultures and religions, which makes it an important element for attraction as a destination for adventure travel.
