Darjeeling Singalila trekking range was put
into the trekking map in the early 20th century. The trek beginning
in Darjeeling and ending at Phalut was a much used trail. The
British had built bungalows at Jorepokhari, Tanglu, Sandakpu
(one of the world's best spot for sunrise or sunset view in
the vicinity of Mt. Kanchenjunga) and Phalut. At that time,
trekking was a sort of a family picnic in the wilderness. When
organized treks came into being, this very trek was introduced
with a little variation. Thus Darjeeling can boast of having
the first organized trek route in India. This trek brings you
into the lap of nature with its 139 varieties of rhododendrons,
magnolias, orchids, bamboo and other rare high altitude plants
and vegetation. The reward at the end of it all is the unsurpassable
view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu and Kangchenjunga as you trek
along the ridge to Phalut.
